Since her Bollywood debut in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bhumi Pednekar has been associated with socially-relevant films. In a career spanning five years, Bhumi has worked in Toilet Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan after her first film, and is now gearing up for Saand Ki Aankh that is the story of women defying all odds in a patriarchal world. In all the previous films, she has tackled problems like excessive weight gain, open defecation and erectile dysfunction. And in Saand Ki Aankh, she is playing the role of a sexagenerian woman struggling to make her name in the male-dominated society.
Bhumi, who recently shot for an episode of Kapil Sharma’s show with her co-star Taapsee Pannu, was asked by him about why she doesn’t choose scripts which do not have social issues attached to them.
Kapil took to Twitter to share a snippet from his show, in which he can be be seen saying, “Aapki har film mein na koi na koi problem hoti hai. Jaise Dum Laga Ke Haisha mein inko weight ka problem tha, Toilet (Ek Prem Katha) mein inko toilet ka problem tha, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan mein Ayushmann ko kuch medical ka problem tha. Ye bina problem wali film karne mein aapko kya problem hai?”

While both the actresses couldn’t help but laugh at his joke, Bhumi replied, “Main na actually doctor hoon. Internally…main logon ki…main samaaj ki…” Kapil was quick enough to reply, “Aap seriously doctor hain? Mere na ek pimple ho raha hai…”
Bhumi says, “Main dil ki doctor hoon” and gets the reply from Kapil, “Main bhi dil ka hi mareez hoon.”
Saand Ki Aankh is scheduled to hit the screens this Diwali and will clash with Housefull 4 and Made In China at the box office.
Apart from Saand Ki Aankh, Bhumi also has Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship and Bala in her kitty. While Bala, which reunites her with Ayushmann Khurrana after Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), is another film based on a social issue, Bhoot Part One is a new genre for her.
In Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship, she will share screen space with Vicky Kaushal.
