100 comes up for Pakistan.
WICKET: Good setup and Lahiru Kumara has a wicket finally.Bowled a barrage of full deliveries before his short one. Azhar Ali wanted to pull but is hurried onto the backfoot. Loses control of his shot and is caught at midwicket. Partnership of 87 broken. Here’s Babar Azam.
Fifty on debut for Abid Ali!Gets there with a brace off Lahiru Kumara. And, it’s time to get a drink.
We’re back on.
Lunch!Abid Ali has made a confident 31 off 60 on debut so far, putting on an unbeaten 51-run partnership with Azhar Ali (21 not out). Pakistan have faced little trouble so far. They’re 54/1 at Lunch in reply to Sri Lanka’s 308/6.. but those numbers are only for record books. We’ll be back in 35.
WICKET:Oh that’s lame. Full toss from Rajitha and Masood could have hit it anywhere he wanted. He hits it straight to extra cover where Chandimal takes a sitter.
We’re back on. Kasun Rajitha gets the new ball. Shan Masood on strike. Oh wait, is that a wicket? Bump ball? The umpires want to get it checked. Oh boy, Rajitha has overstepped. And it was a bump ball, anyway. No damage done.
Oh, hold on a moment. Sri Lanka have declared their innings on 308/6, right after the century.Only reason I see for this is to get their bowlers some workout as well before the series deciding next Test. Be back in 10.
There it is! Dhananjaya might feel like he’s batted a very long time for his sixth Test ton. Brings up the milestone with another gloriously timed cover drive. First innings in Pakistan for him, first century in Pakistan for him. Shame it won’t contribute to anything significant though…
A boundary through the covers for Dhananjaya to take him to 96 and Sri Lanka to 300.
Players walk out. Dhananjaya will take strike for the last ball of the pending Naseem Shah over.
First ball in 10 minutes. Stay tuned!
Hello and welcome back!
Day 5 of the first Test being played on Pakistan soil after a decade and it’s bright and sunny, in a sharp contrast to how the last three days have been. Unfortunately, the game wouldn’t likely produce a result unless the two teams turn adventurous, forfeit an innings and SL set Pakistan a competitive score to treat it like a one-dayer. In a two-game series, I have doubts the teams will risk it. So, yeah, drab start to the return of Test cricket in Pakistan. But, hey, it’s a start, right?
